(These coins in the glass pyramid are two pennies and one nickle. This was my first souvenir when I first arrived in Canada, bought at the airport.)
This object was the first object that I bought after moving to Canada. Every time I look at this coin pyramid, it reminds me of the first day in Canada: being scared but curious at the same time. It brings back memories of the first time stepping our of the airport and smelling the foreign air, feeling uncomfortable, and crying to go back to Korea. Moving to Canada at a young age was frightening due to the fact that I did not speak english at all. But moving to Canada was the best thing that happened in my life because I was exposed to a new culture that shaped me into who I am today. If I did not move to Canada, I wouldn’t be in an international school right now, doing this project. Instead, I would be attending a Korean school, not being able to know as much about foreign cultures as much as today.
2. WRITTEN SOURCE - PASSPORT- PRIMARY SOURCE
(This is my Canadian passport. I have dual nationality so I was born in South Korea, but later on got Canadian citizenship. Therefore, I am Korean-Canadian.)
After living 3 years in Canada, I could get my citizenship. I made my passport at the age of 10. This is very significant for me because it shows that I have lived in Canada and have finally become Canadian after living in Canada for many years. The 6~7 years that I lived in Canada has changed my life drastically. I could think in different perspectives and find new styles and customs which helped me to become who I am today.
